Bamford Primary School Craft Club
Claire Hoey 23/11/10
I thought that I would write each week what we have been up to because we are having SO much fun in our craft club. I went to the training day in Derby in September and we couldn't wait to start our club. The teachers and head were so supportive that we run it during school hours on a Tuesday afternoon from 1.15 until 3.30pm. There are three mums that come and help with me each week. So far all the year 3's and 4's have learnt to finger knit and it has started quite a craze. The boys got very competitive as to who could knit the longest! The year 5's and 6's are all learning to knit on needles. We decided that to learn how to do it they would each knit a strip which we would then out together like a paper chain to hang on the school christmas tree! They cast on 7 stitches and knit until it is 21cm long. Every single child had loved doing this and the chain is looking wonderful and as soon as I can work out how to upload photos I will show you. The boys are even knitting at playtime. They all really look forward to Tuesdays. In the next week or so we are having a sponsored knit, where the children will either finger knit or knit on needles and get sponsored by the cm - we are then hoping to use the money we raise to buy more supplies. And just to let you know that nobody is too young for craft club, even the reception class are finger knitting on two fingers and are very proud of what they have created. I shall post each week and share with you what the children are up to. The feedback from the children is wonderful - this Craft Club scheme is inspirational and the support we have had from both the people at the Craft Club itself as well as the staff at the school has been overwhelming. That's fantastic Claire! ...loved it when you said, "just to let you know that nobody is too young for craft club, even the reception class are finger knitting on two fingers and are very proud..." Can't wait to hear more about what you all are doing.

This is really brilliant Claire. Well done for being so inspirational. I can't wait to see photos and look forward to hearing about your Craft Club week by week. Denise
