Bamford Primary School Craft Club - News

Claire Hoey 07/12/10

Due to the weather school was closed last week so unfortunately there was no craft club! But we managed to fit one in yesterday afternoon because today (our usual afternoon) the school have a visiting pantomime! We have oh so nearly finished our knitted chain for the tree - only one more child to add to it - so hopefully by the end of this week I will have photos of it on the Xmas tree! Our sponsored knit has started this week and already there are finger knitted strips unbelievably long so hopefully we shall raise quite a bit for the club. One boy is my star at the moment as not only has he knitted almost 15 metres of finger knitting but he is also teaching lots of other children too. Next week he is coming with me to the Year two class and we are going to teach some of the younger ones that have yet to learn. The photo of his ludicrously long finger knitting will be in our album here soon. Yesterday we had so much fun just sat knitting together and chatting about what is going on in the childrens lives at the moment. This social side of craft club is as important as the passing on of skills in my view. One boy even asked his teacher if he could come out of ICT where they were playing on the lap tops and see if he could come and join the needle knitting - hooray! My favourite comment of the afternoon though was definitely from one girl who is football mad and was at first one of my more reluctant knitters, 'I thought knitting was for old grannies but it isn't its fun for me too I just don't want to stop!' There is so much fun to be had with children in a creative environment - we all always leave smiling. Thanks Claire
