Felted Landscape
Claire Hoey 28/06/11
At our craft club this term as well as doing crochet with the Year 3 and 4s we are doing a felted landscape with the year 5 and 6s. Carol Wilson a local felt artist has kindly come in again to run this project. She brought a photograph of the local Ladybower reservoir and spilt it into a grid. Each square is then given to a pair of children. They study their square and draw it out in pastels taking note of colours and placement. They then recreate this in felt using the wet felting technique. At the end of this half term we will have 15 felted squares that will then be sewn together to create a large wall hanging for the school of the local scenery. All this is taking place in the outdoor classroom so the children can be inspired by the scenery around them (and one week the rain!!!!)They are thoroughly enjoying this whole process and working on a large project as a group.
