New things at Knitting Club
Claire Hoey 06/04/11
Our lunchtime Knitting club has been trying out new things. We got some HUGE needles they are 20mm and cut up black bin bags into one long strip and then knitted with it. The children were amazed that we could knit with something other than wool and are now looking at everything in a new light. The clubs members were running out into the playground saying to everyone 'come and see you won't believe what Mrs Hoey is getting us to knit with' until we had quite a large crowd. One child having reached over 40m over finger knitting decided to then finger knit with the finger knitting and the whole school was amazed with the result and it has sparked off another craze of finger knitting - everyone wanting to get enough finger knitting to then finger knit with! The result is a really thick chunck rope. We are now planning on using our emormous needles to knit supporting trellises for our runner beans that the children are going to be growing. The favourite material for that knitting project is baler twine - which is what the local farmers use to tie the hay bales with. So lots of fun all round. Claire Hoey
