Craft Club (‘the Club’) is administered by the Crafts Council. The Crafts Council is committed to protecting your personal information when you are using this website and its resources. This Privacy Policy relates to our use of any personal information you provide to us through www.craftclub.org.uk (‘the Site’), or any related sites, and our data collection forms on the Site.

This policy together with the Terms of Use, sets out the basis on which any personal information we collect from you, or that you provide to us through your use of the Site will be processed and disclosed by us.  Please read the following carefully to understand our policies and practices regarding your personal data and how we will treat it. 

By using the Site, you indicate your agreement to our use of your personal data as set out in this Privacy Policy.

This Privacy Policy is applicable from your first use of the Site.

 

The Crafts Council is legally obliged to safeguard and use your personal information in line with all laws concerning the protection of personal information, including the Data Protection Act 1998 (these laws are referred to collectively in this Privacy Policy as the "data protection laws"). The Crafts Council is registered with the Information Commissioner and is the 'data controller' of the personal information we collect, for the purposes of the data protection laws.

 

What information do we collect?

 

We may collect and process the following information about you:

(a)   Information that you provide by filling in the JOIN UP or other forms on the Site. This includes information provided at the time of registering or posting materials or requesting further services and includes email addresses, physical addresses, telephone numbers (including mobile telephone numbers) and other contact information you supply.

(b)   If you contact us, whether by email, post, fax or telephone or via the Site, or if we contact you, we may keep a record of that communication.

(c)   We may also ask you to complete surveys that we use for research purposes, although you do not have to respond to them.

(d)   Details of your activities throughout the Site (your clicks via the Site, content you post on the Site.

(e)   Details of your visits to the Site including, but not limited to, computer sign-on data, traffic data (including the URL you came from and the URL you go to next, whether they are URLs on the Site or not)

(f)    If you enter into any competitions or promotions that we may run, we may ask for information about you, which will be made clear at the time you enter. We will also inform you of the purposes for which the information you provide may be used.

(g)   We collect statistical information in aggregated form from all Users of the Site to help us to make improvements to the Site and our services. However you or any other individual cannot be identified from any such information that we share as the information is aggregated and anonymised.

 

What do we use personal information for?

 

The Crafts Council will use your personal information for the following purposes:

 

(a)    To help us to operate the Site efficiently.

(b)    For administration purposes in connection with the operation of the Club

(c)    To provide you with information or services that you request from us.

(d)    To make operational or service-related communications with you in connection with the Club

(e)    To detect and prevent potentially prohibited or illegal activities, and to enforce the provisions of Terms and Conditions and any other applicable policies or terms and conditions.

(f)     To resolve disputes and trouble-shoot problems.

 

We will not, other than as set out in this Privacy Policy or in the Terms of Use, pass on your data or permit third parties to use your data without your agreement.

 

When will you be contacted?

 

The Crafts Council may contact you:

 

(a)   for marketing purposes where and when you have specifically agreed to this;

(b)   for administration purposes in connection with the operation of the Club;

(c)   where you have opted to receive further correspondence or contact from the Crafts Council;

(d)   To invite you to participate voluntarily in surveys about the Crafts Council services. Information gathered through surveys will be compiled on an aggregated basis and will not identify individual respondents.

 

Will you be contacted for marketing purposes?

 

The Crafts Council won't contact you for marketing purposes, or promote new services to you, unless you have agreed to be contacted for these purposes.

 

You may always choose not to receive marketing information from the Crafts Council and, if you are already receiving such information from us, you can ask us to stop at any time. What personal information is published on the site?

 

When you Join Up and register as a Club member and start using the Forum only your ‘Screen Name’ will be available to other Users unless you choose to make any personal information available such as your real name and email address. When you upload videos and other personal information in connection with your use of the Site you will be making that personal information publicly available to other Users of the Site and you do so at your own risk. 

Once this information is made available on the Site we will not be responsible for any use which is made of this information. 

Although we implement security measures on the Site we cannot guarantee that the personal information you post on the Site will not be viewed by unauthorised persons.  Even after removal, copies of personal information you have chosen to upload to the Site may have been copied and stored by other persons.

We therefore recommend that you consider carefully what information you upload to the Site.

 

Will the Crafts Council share my personal information?

 

Your information will be kept confidential and not shared with any third parties except with your permission or where disclosure may be required or permitted by law.

 

Sometimes the Crafts Council uses third parties to process your information for particular services such as payments and handling promotions. Some of these third parties may be based outside the European Economic Area where data protection laws may provide lesser protection than under EU laws. However whenever we share your personal information with third parties the Crafts Council will require these third parties by contract to comply strictly with the instructions we give them and to take all necessary steps to keep the information secure.

 

Information to improve our site

 

We collect statistics about your visit to the Site based on your IP address (an IP address is a number that uniquely identifies a specific computer or network device on the internet). This information is used to help us understand browsing preferences on our site so that we can regularly improve our website. We do not use this information to identify you as an individual and you will remain anonymous. The information we gather will also enable us to better understand your needs and how you use these services so that we can continue to improve our website.

 

How the Crafts Council uses cookies

 

Cookies are very small text files saved to your computer used to track user navigation around a website. Session cookies are also used to store information on which content has been seen by a user to help us provide you with a better user experience.

 

The Crafts Council uses measurement and analysis tools to gather information regarding visitors to Crafts Council sites using cookies, log file data and code which is embedded on the website. This type of information is used to help improve services.

What if I am a user aged 16 or under?

 

If you are under 12 you must ask your parent’s permission before using the Site. If you are 12-16 wish to submit personal information via the Site we recommend you ask your parent/guardian's permission beforehand.

 

How long will the Crafts Council keep my personal information?

 

We will hold your personal information on our systems only for as long as is necessary for the purpose for which it was obtained. The contact details and other information you give us when you join the Club will be retained while you remain a member and then be deleted within 6 months. The contents of the Forum will normally be deleted every 6 weeks.

 

How do we protect your personal information?

 

We are serious about guarding the security of your personal information. We take appropriate organisational and technical security measures to protect your data against unauthorised disclosure or processing.

 

Our server and backups used to store the information you give us when you register are held in a secure environment behind firewalls and are password protected.

 

Secure transmission is used to send your personal information between the website and our server, and to other servers required for fraud detection and credit card processing.

 

However you should keep in mind that no Internet transmission is ever completely secure or error-free. In particular, any e-mail sent to or from this site may not be secure.

 

 

Can I find out what personal information is held about me?

 

Under the Data Protection Act, you can make a formal request for information about any personal information we are holding about you. Please contact dpa@craftscouncil.org.uk

 

Information requests will be fulfilled within a 40 day period. A small fee may be payable.
